RICHARD'S APHORISMS

  1. The disease is stronger than the will. The disease is more cunning than the mind.

  2. Prayer of an Oxford Group drunk: "God, please manage me, because I cannot manage myself".

  3. Powerlessness is my greatest asset.

  4. The most important fact of our lives is the awareness of the presence of God.

  5. The mind is best used for entertainment only. Don't take it seriously.

  6. You don't have to be from a dysfunctional family to be screwed up.

  7. Genuine love is neither desire, nor passion, nor rapture, nor euphoria, nor bliss. Love is the simple willingness to put the welfare of another human being ahead of your own convenience.

  8. You cannot love and live life on your own terms.

  9. There is undoubtedly a way for you to survive. There may not be a way for you to survive on your own terms.

  10. I am not my ego, but my ego thinks it's me.

  11. Surrender happens when the pain of now becomes bigger than the fear of what the future will be if you lose control.

  12. Expectations are resentments under construction.

  13. God is taking excellent care of me while I'm alive. He's not going to drop me on my ass just because I'm dead.
